Sudan: Sudan's darkest hour

14 April 2025 marks two years since war erupted in Sudan, triggering one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Over 11.5 million people have been displaced within Sudan, while 3.25 million have fled to neighbouring countries Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt and others. Nearly 25 million people—half the population—require urgent food assistance, with 1.5 million teetering on the edge of famine. Despite soaring needs, funding cuts have forced aid organisations to scale back life-saving support. In 2025, $4.16 billion is required to assist 20.9 million people, yet as of April , only 9.9% has been funded. Without immediate action, millions will face starvation, displacement, and further suffering.
