"So, I'm now in Adré in eastern Chad, and what you see behind me is Sudan. And from there, Darfur. All these people fled because there was such a wave of violence in the recent ten months or so. Last summer each and every of these families had the knock on the door, or rather, their door was broken by what they called the 'Janjaweed', which are Arab militias that were after them."

"Many were killed, many were abused, raped, their belongings were looted, and they fled for their lives here to eastern Chad. Here they haven't gotten much aid because it's the most under-funded operation we have anywhere in the world. 700,000 people fled to Chad. There is another 9 million people who have fled internally in Sudan. This operation is screaming for more resources and more protection for the civilian population."
