Thousands of families displaced by armed conflict reside together with the local community here. The forced displacement adds pressures to the host community, including for water. People here used river water for drinking, which took them hours to reach but also subjected them to diseases.
"Before this water pump was installed a few months ago, we had to go to collect water from the river far away. We had to walk for half an hour to reach the river. The river water exposed us and our children to different diseases, like diarrhoea, typhoid, and abdominal pain from drinking that water. Now thanks to NRC we have this water which is safe'.
