Nearly 5 months of conflict, the UN has warned that Gaza may witness an “explosion in preventable child deaths due to hunger and disease.” The 1.1 million children in Gaza are now facing death by starvation and disease. Israel’s continued restrictions on aid and access to food, water, sanitation and health services is leading to widespread starvation and increases the risk of famine. Averting famine requires restoring essential services, restoring commercial access, protecting livelihoods, and ensuring the provision of safe, nutritious food.
People are being starved, the use of starvation as a method of warfare is strictly prohibited under international law.
