NRC has scaled up aid delivery and operations in Rafah and other areas of Gaza to reach almost 100,000 people through regular distributions of blankets, sleeping mats, tents and other non-food Items, as well as water trucking and provided cash assistance to tens of thousands of individuals.
However, any further deterioration in humanitarian conditions in Rafah would be catastrophic as disease and starvation persist among the displaced population.
NRC has long warned that as Israeli military operations in Gaza drive civilians closer to its southern borders, the looming risks of mass deportation of Palestinians across borders grows. We have said publicly that the forcible transfer and deportation of a significant population across borders, lacking any guarantees of return, would constitute a serious breach of international law, amounting to an atrocity crime.
