Like many Afghans who have struggled financially over the last year, Mohammed was in vast amounts of debt even before the settlements were closed. As they were being evicted many of his debtors came to visit to demand their money, he could not pay so they took some of his possessions instead. The family used to own a Bukhari stove like this one pictured, but it was taken by a shopkeeper in lieu of payment for debt. They were forced to pay another 2,000 Afghani to rent a car to transport them to their village of origin, and he had to take this as a loan as well.
